West Side All Stars can claim bragging rights of being best from the west as they defeated West Demerara United in the West Demerara final at Den Amstel Community Centre ground yesterday.
This victory means that West Side All stars will represent that region in the round of 32 set to commence of July 24.
Tonie Lopes, Cleveland Walcott, and Clement Brown scored for West Side All Stars in the first, second and 27th minutes respectively. Winston Johnson scored a double in the ninth and 25th minutes for the defeated West Demerara United side.
In the semifinal, which preceded the final, West Side All Stars defeated Squatters ‘The Gunners’ United 7 -3; while West Demerara United saw off Uitvlugt Image 3-2 in the closer of the two semis.
This was an upset win for West Demerara United over Utivlugt Image, which missed two 6 sec penalties in the final 5 minutes; Sherwin Lanferman and Jacobs being the culprits.
The zone semifinals and finals will be played today at Grove on the East Bank and also in Berbice. Linden and East Coast will continue tomorrow and conclude on Wednesday while games will also be played at the GFC.
