HEUSDEN-ZOLDER, Belgium, CMC – Veteran Bahamian sprinter Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie took the women’s 100 metres at the KBC Night of Athletics here yesterday.
On a wet, windy night, the 35-year-old World Championship bronze medallist streaked to victory in 11.15 seconds, with 24-year-old American Barbara Pierre second in 11.18 seconds.
Jamaican Isa Phillips, meanwhile copped silver in the men’s 400 metres hurdles, crossing the tape behind South African Cornel Fredericks.
The 27-year-old Phillips clocked 50.05 seconds while Fredericks was timed at 49.25 seconds.
Meanwhile, two-time reigning Olympic pole vault champion, Russian Yelena Isinbayeva marked her first outdoor meet in two years with a victory.
She won with a first time clearance at 4.50 metres.
