The Food and Drug Department has announced that a voluntary recall of a batch of Tylenol Extra Strength Caplets has been issued.
In a press release the Department said McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued the recall of the retail level one product lot (60,912 bottles) of the 225 count bottles of caplets Lot Number ABA619. The recalled product was manufactured in February 2009.
According to the Department McNeil is taking this action as a precaution following a small number of complaints that the lot has a musty, mouldy odour. This uncharacteristic odour has been linked to the presence of trace amounts of the chemical 2, 4, 6-Tribromoanisole (TBA) a metabolite of 2,4,6-Tribomophenol which is used as a fungicide. The
TBA can generate an offensive odour and it has been associated with temporary and non-serious gastrointestinal symptoms, however; the risk of serious adverse medical events is remote.
The Department advises persons who purchased product from the said lot to stop using the product and contact its offices on telephone numbers 222-8857 or 222-8859. It also noted that the local distributor Distribution Services Limited has said that this lot was not imported.
