The driver of the bus in Monday’s Homestretch Avenue accident in which five persons perished was today charged with five counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
The bus toppled several times after one of its tyres suffered a blow-out but passengers also said that the bus was speeding.
Jormin Jackson was remanded to prison after being charged with five counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
The allegation against Jackson is that on July 18 on Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown, he drove motor minibus BMM 9888 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Erica La Cruz, Crazel Paul, Junior Duncan, Peter McLennon and Coretta Benjamin.
Jackson, 29 of 97 Section ‘A’ Sophia was not required to plead to the indictable charges when they were read to him by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton before whom he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court .
His matter will be called again on September 9.
