Leslain Baird continued his impressive form on the second day of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Inter-Unit Championships held at Camp Ayanganna ground yesterday.
After turning in the fastest 400-metre time of 50.8s on the first day of the championships, Baird clocked 21.52s to claim the fastest 200-metre heats time. He will now clash with Dellon DeAbreu who ran the second fastest time, in the 200 metres heats of 22.34s in the finals tomorrow.
Tiffany Smith and Letitia Miles who will meet each other in the 100 metres final will also match strides in the 200 metres final as they both won their respective heats with Miles clocking 25.88s and Smith 26.10s.
In the men’s 800 metres race, Carlon Halley ran 2:05.21s to come out victorious in his heats while Kareem Aaron came from behind to upset seasoned campaigner Tyshon Bentick with a time of 2:06.89s. Also, Jamal Scott bounced back from a fourth place finish in the men’s long jump to win the triple jump with a jump measuring 12.87 metres.
In the final event of the day the First Infantry ran away with the men’s medley relay while Defence Head Quarters won the women’s medley.
Today will be a rest day for the athletes while all the finals will be contested tomorrow from 10am at the Camp Ayanganna ground.
