Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton remanded a Brazilian national accused of forging an extension of stay stamp in his passport, when he yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Ildo Santos Gomez Barosso is that on July 18, at the Ogle Airport, East Coast Demerara, with intent to defraud, he uttered to Constable Wellington, an Immigration Officer, a Brazilian passport numbered FD723463, with a false extension of stay permit dated May 31, 2011 to October 30, 2011. The false stamp purported to show that it was issued by the Central Immigration and Passport Office.
Further, between June 6 and July 18 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, Barosso is alleged to have conspired with person or persons unknown to forge an extension of stay permit in the said passport in favour of himself, purporting to show that same was issued by the Central Immigration and Passport Office.
The accused, who was provided with an interpreter, denied the charges when they were read to him.
No facts of the cases were presented to the court by the prosecution. The matter was transferred to Court One for reports on September 8.
