A lion-hearted effort from Windward Islands fast bowler Ray Jordan gave the defending champions a share of the spoils on a rain-affected opening day of their second round match of the 2011 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regional under-19 tournament, at Providence yesterday.
Scores to date: Trinidad 219/6 of 70 overs, Akeal Hosein 68, Raj Jordan 4-39
The Trinidad side made two changes bringing in batsman Saivon Lara and Stephen Sooklall for fast bowlers Rajiv Maraj and Philton Williams in a effort to strengthen their batting that struggled in their opening round match.
The game commenced to a late 10:45am start on the drainage efficient stadium and two other interruptions at 11:25am and 11:54am respectively sent they boys from the twin island republic into lunch in the truncated first session on 46/2 with opener Christian Herrera and number three batsman Duane Cockburn dismissed for 11 and 6 respectively.
As the weather improved in the second and third sessions, both sides fought in a pristine cat and mouse fashion to secure the initiative from each other.
The Trinidad innings was held together mainly by a polished 68 from Akeal Hosein which was decorated with seven fours and one six. The strongly built and bustling fast-bowler Jordan finished with impressive figures 4 for 39 from 13 lively overs.
Play is scheduled to resume today at 9:30 hrs.
