Two Stabroek Market vendors accused of assaulting each other last week appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Savatrie Deonarine, 36, of 22 Craig, East Bank Demerara denied that on July 15 at the Stabroek Market, Water Street, Georgetown she unlawfully assaulted Clifton Cummings.
Meanwhile, Cummings, 62, of 66 Vryheid’s Land Squatting Area, West Bank Demerara denied that on the same day he unlawfully assaulted Deonarine so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
Both defendants made successful bail applications on their own behalf and the prosecution had no objection.
No facts of what transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.
Deonarine was later placed on $10,000 bail while Cummings was ordered to post bail in the sum of $18,000 after the magistrate explained to him that the allegation against him was more serious than the one levelled against Deonarine.
The matters were transferred to Court One for reports on September 12.
