STOCKHOLM, (Reuters) – Home favourite Alexander Noren battled freak winds as he cruised to a seven-shot victory at the Scandinavian Masters yesterday.
Noren’s five-over-par 77 gave him a 72-hole total of 15-under 273, with Briton Richard Finch (69) alone in second place on 280 after shooting the day’s only round in the 60s as players struggled in the testing conditions.
“I’ve never seen wind like this in Sweden. Every hole was super tough and even downwind it was hard to choose the clubs,” world number 92 Noren told the European Tour website (www.europeantour.com).
“It’s amazing, you see some friendly faces in the crowd and it’s unbelievable. I’m very happy,” added the Wales Open winning Swede, who will move into the top 70 after securing his second title of the season.
Compatriot Niklas Lemke (73) finished in third on five-under 283, while American world number seven Dustin Johnson (74) ended tied-sixth on 285 with countryman Bubba Watson (78) and two others.
