(DWT) PARAMARIBO – The controversial photo in the history book “Wij en ons verleden” (We and our past) for the sixth grade of primary school in which a demonstrator hold a sign calling President Desi Bouterse a murderer should be removed. Besides high officials at the Education Ministry, Parliament’s permanent committee on education has also received a copy of the textbook to study and comment upon. Parliamentarians Soetimin Marsidih (chairman of the permanent committee for education) and Diana Pokie do believe the photo is appropriate. Marsidih believes the problems will be solved if the photo is replaced, while Pokie believes the textbook should not be distributed and used in classrooms. The education committee will likely meet today to determine its definite position in this matter.
