Jamaican Karl Rodney, 73, the founder and head of the weekly New York Carib News, has been sentenced to two years probation and 500 house of community service for lying to the US Congress, according to the Caribbean Media Corporation.
CMC said he was also fined US$2,500. Rodney was the organiser of Caribbean conferences that contributed to the downfall of Harlem Democratic Congressman, Charles Rangel.
The report said that Judge Emmet Sullivan of US District Court for the District of Columbia did not include any jail time in sentencing Rodney, who had hidden from Congress the funding source for conferences in the Caribbean.
