Eighteen disability organisations met at the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre to discuss civic rights, when the Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons with Disabilities convened another voter education workshop recently.
In a press release, the Council said 25 representatives from six administrative regions discussed difficulties they had encountered at previous general and regional elections. The workshop also provided information about the voting process and gave participants guidelines for organising voter education workshops and lecture sessions in their various regions. They also agreed on a number of techniques to use in other voter education activities.
The Trainer of Trainers workshop, conducted by Gregory Glasgow and Gwendoline Glasgow, is one component of a project the Council is implementing in partnership with Tetra Tech ARD/USAID under the Governance Enhancement Project titled โVoting Rights: Ensuring Access for Persons with Disabilities.โ A Needs Assessment Workshop was held at the same venue last month end.
According to the release, the workshop emphasised a participant-centred approach to learning and the importance of using multiple training techniques to create maximum learning effectiveness. These included the use of case studies, group discussions and visual aids. The session also highlighted the importance of the seating layout in creating a teaching environment that fosters full participation and involvement of trainees in the learning process.
