A drug trafficker who sold ganja to an undercover police officer was sentenced to five years in jail at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Horace Stephen, 31, of Best Squatting Area, West Coast Demerara pleaded guilty to the charge of trafficking in narcotics and was sentenced to five years imprisonment as well as a fined $100 000 by Magistrate Sherdel Marcus.
His partner, Nita Rogers, 36, and a mother of two was also charged with the same offence and was remanded to prison after she pleaded not guilty. It is alleged that last Saturday at Plantation Best Squatting Area, the duo trafficked in narcotics and sold to a police officer, 217 grammes of cannabis.
The court was told that the rank went to the couple and told them he wanted some “weed” to buy and they sold him the drug, not knowing that he was an undercover cop. The duo was arrested and later charged.
In admitting to the deed, Stephen told the court that he sold ganja “for a living.” He was then handed the sentence. Rogers, meanwhile, will have to return to court on August 30 at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.
