(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – According to MC-Parliamentarian Andre Misiekaba, there is ample reason to be anxious that much illegal and drug money is circulating in Suriname without the authorities being able to do anything about it. Yesterday, he put some penetrating questions in parliament to find out to what extent the current money laundering legislation is functioning and whether the Bureau for Unusual Transactions (MOT) is functioning in accordance with the law. Parliamentarians also wanted hard guarantees from the government that institutions should uphold the laws are not used against innocent citizens.
