Former national youth player Kellon Carmichael produced an all-round performance yesterday when he grabbed 2-38 and stroked an entertaining 48 as Christopher Barnwell’s XI beat Steven Jacobs’ XI by 32 runs at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground. The match was played to assist the selectors in arriving at the Georgetown Pitbulls team that will play in the Jamzone Master’s Cup T20 cricket competition at the Guyana National Stadium on August 12 and 14.
Barnwell’s XI batted first and reached 153-9 off their allotted 20 overs with Jamal Hinckson leading the way with 42. National wicketkeeper Derwin Christian (25), Charwayne McPherson (22) and Shemroy Barrington (15) lent support as pacer Kevin Odle and off-spinner Steven Jacobs picked up two wickets each.
In reply, Jacobs’ XI was restricted to 121-8 as Carmichael and David Dick (25) were the only batsmen to reach 25. Andre Stoll had 2-14, while pacer Quason Nedd and offspinner Randy Lindore had figures of 2-8 and 2-16 respectively.
Meanwhile, West Indies middle order batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan will lead the Georgetown Pitbulls, which will also overseas players Kieron Pollard, Nain Stewart, Suleiman Benn and Jamaican pacer Krishmar Santokie.
The competition, organised by Hits and Jams Entertainment as a part of their 11th annual Jamzone Summer Break activities, has been sanctioned by the Guyana Cricket Board. It will officially be launched today at 14:00 hours at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
