GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Barbados narrowly grabbed first innings lead over Jamaica yesterday, to take the advantage in their third round WICB Regional Under-19 match at Enmore.
Barbados claimed two wickets in successive overs to end Jamaica’s resistance at 171, as they chased 177 for first innings lead.
At the close, they were five without loss in their second innings.
Resuming the day second day on one without loss, Jamaica threatened through West Indies Under-19 batsman John Campbell who got 29, Donovan Nelson who stroked 28 and Ragni Francis, 27.
However, off-spinner and captain Kraigg Brathwaite claimed four for 33 with support coming from Chaim Holder who finished with three for 43 with his off-breaks, to give Barbados the edge.
Openers Bryan Gayle and Campbell gave Jamaica a solid start with a stand of 39 for the first wicket, before Gayle was lbw to pacer Justin Greaves (2-29) for 18.
His dismissal triggered a slide as Campbell was bowled by Brathwaite at 54 for two after striking two fours and ten runs later, Ramon Senior was caught close in by Shane Parris off Holder.
Wickets tumbled steadily and when Fabian Allen (10) fell to a catch at slip by Anthony Alleyne off leg-spinner Amir Thomas, Jamaica were struggling at 120 for seven.
