PARAMARIBO – The United Nations (UN) has donated about US$1 million to Suriname to better protect its natural resources such as Bigi Pan (Nickerie) and the mangrove-forests before the coast of Coronie and Saramacca. The agreement with the Un was signed by Minister Simon Martosatiman of Zonal Planning, Land and Forest management (RGB) and his colleague at the Ministry of Labor, Technological Development and Environment (ATM) Ginmardo Kromosoeto. The means are from the Global Environment Fund (GEF) of the UN.UN-representative in Suriname Thomas Gittens signed on behalf of the UN. RGB will be responsible for implementing the project while ATM and Foreign Affairs (BUZA) will keep an eye on the activities.
