The Lilian Dewar Award for the Best Graduating Student in English at the University of Guyana was presented on Thursday to the 2009 and 2010 awardees, Naicelis Rozema and Kandasi Kendall at the Oswald Parry Hall, the Bishops High School.Lilian Dewar, a first class local educator, now deceased, had the distinction of being the first Guyanese girl to win the British Guiana Scholarship. On completion of her studies, she returned to then British Guiana, and joined the staff at the Bishops High School, becoming the school’s first local teacher. She taught English and Latin and subsequently went on become the first Guyanese principal of Bishops.
