The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) proved too strong for Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in recording an 83-run victory in the Banks DIH sponsored Tropical Mist Pee Wee cricket final played Thursday afternoon at the Thirst Park ground.
Early morning showers failed to stop play as the players donned their whites for an epic battle after rain had forced the postponement of the final twice before.
Batting first, DCC rattled up 234 at the end of their allotted 20 overs with Captain Shemar De Souza leading the way with an unbeaten knock of 25.
Bowling for GCC, Aravinda Gainda took four wickets for six runs from his two overs. He was later named Best Bowler and Best fielder of the final for his pugnacious performance in a losing cause.
In reply, GCC were restricted to 151 runs.
The Bourda batsmen found it hard to score and once the first openers were dismissed, they lost wickets frequently and fell out of contention.
The Most Valuable Player of the final was Xaviee Smith of DCC who scored 20 and captured two wickets in the match. DeSouza was voted Best Batsman of the final with his matured knock of 25 not out. Roger Harper, President of the Georgetown Cricket Association, thanked Banks DIH for sponsoring the tournament which attracted four teams in Georgetown.
The former Guyana and West Indies all-rounder said that the match was played at a very high standard and he offered congratulations to both finalists.
Banks DIH Communications Manager, Troy Peters, said the match showcased some talented players who are the future of the game. He thanked the parents for showing interest in their children by attending the match and offering support.
Tropical Mist Brand Manager Errol Nelson presented the prizes to the outstanding players of the two competing teams, umpires and the scorer. Also present at the match were Banks DIH Outdoor Events Manager, Mortimer Stewart, President of DCC Alfred Mentore, GCA Competitions Chairman, Shaun Massiah and GCA Vice President of Cricket Developmentย Neil Barry.
The GCA indicated their gratitude to Banks DIH Tropical Mist for partnering with them addingย that they looked forward to strengthening the relationship in the future.
