Some 115 children in Georgetown, East Coast Demerara, Berbice and Linden have completed a steel pan music literacy programme sponsored by Republic Bank – ‘the Right Start Pan Minors Music Literacy Programme’ and were this week awarded certificates.
Republic Bank General Manager Corporate and Management Services Denise Hobbs said in an address at a closing ceremony on Thursday for the Georgetown and East Coast programmes at the Pegasus Hotel, that the programme commenced in mid-July with the objective of improving and developing playing skills while affording an appreciation of the art form.
Hobbs indicated that the programme, part of the bank’s ‘making a difference’ vision, started last year.
Seventy-nine students received certificates of appreciation on Thursday, while the remaining 36 were scheduled to receive theirs yesterday. The closing ceremony saw the students showcasing what they had learnt. In photos are students of the beginners and intermediate classes showcasing their skills.
