A 51-year-old pastor of Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice was stabbed to death around 10:15 pm yesterday.
Reports are that Motielall Persaud who operated an internet café at the nearby Armadale Village served as an assistant pastor at the church and was supposed to “take over in full from today.” He was elected to head the Assemblies of God church in the village a week ago.
He had just left his business place and was about to open his door when two masked men pounced on him.
The attackers dealt him a slash to his foot and followed him to his brother-in-law’s yard next door where he ran to seek cover and stabbed him again in the region of his heart.
Relatives said he succumbed to his wounds as they were trying to locate transportation to take him to the hospital.
Persaud’s attackers stole his cell phone, a set of keys for his house and business place and a small amount of cash from his pocket.
But relatives are convinced that robbery was not the motive and that the killing was “premeditated.” The keys were later retrieved at the scene.
They said it appeared as though the men were waiting on Persaud to arrive home. According to them he parked his car, locked the gate and was going up the stairs when they followed him.
A scuffle ensued and he used a side gate to escape in his brother-in-law’s yard nearby and called out to him. The men then dealt him the fatal blow in the region of his heart.
