The organisers of the inaugural Kares Engineering/Bushy Park Sawmills Inc 10/10 Tapeball cricket competition yesterday announced that three regional mega stars will be in Guyana for a concert to be held following the finals of the current competition on September 4 at the Providence National Stadium.
Head of the Organising Committee, Radesh Pameshwar, yesterday announced at a press conference that Caribbean mega stars in Chutney King Rikki Jai, Grammy Award winner Shaggy of Jamaica along with Peter Ram have been confirmed to appear on the ‘Kares Caribbean Bacchanal’ which will be held immediately following the finals.
Shaggy will be accompanied by his band and it was also disclosed that the Melobugz band out of Trinidad and Tobago will also be on the programme.
The press conference was held at the GCC Pavilion and Pameshwar said the list of performers were specifically chosen to satisfy the diverse makeup of the Guyanese society.
He added that the organizing committee for the tournament had arrived at the decision to stage the show in appreciation of the fans who have supported the tournament from the start.
“The after finals concert is to show our appreciation for the support we received throughout the competition and we’ve decided to contract artistes from right across the Caribbean that will be performing different types of music that we are certain will be appreciated by all the races of this beautiful country,” Rameshwar stated.
He disclosed that special prizes will be given out to fans that attend the cricket matches,adding that they will also enjoy discounts for attending both events.
The price of admission for those wishing to attend both the cricket and concert is $3,000, while those that intend to go to the concert only will have to pay the same price for admission.
VIP tickets will be sold at $5,000 per person and tickets go on sale in 8-9 days time at strategic locations across the country.
Speaking of the competition, Rameshwar said they were extremely happy that despite the inclement weather, a total of 594 matches to date has been completed.
He said more matyches are planned for this week-end adding that they are on schedule to complete the matches to accommodate the date set for the finals.
He added that the support to date has been beyond their expectations, the response tremendous and they are optimistic that come September 4, there will be a huge turnout at the National Stadium.
Eight matches are scheduled to be played with the Boys and Girls finals in the schools categories, semi-finals and finals of the open divisions among the games listed.
The winner and runner-up of the Men’s category will receive $1million and $500,000 respectively, while the Ladies segment will see the winner take home $500,000 and loser $300,000, while the Most Valuable Players of the tournament and finals will be awarded scooters.
School winners and losing finalists will be given $400,000 and $200,000 respectively, but that will go to the schools in the form of equipment of their choice.
The MVP’s will be awarded lap tops.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day in all the stands.
