The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will open its Sevens season with the traditional Banks DIH Sevens competition today featuring men’s and women’s competition among he Yamaha Caribs, the Guyana Defence Force and Hornets.
The Banks DIH Sevens marks the beginning of Guyana’s preparation for the Pan American Games Rugby Sevens which will be held from October 15-30 with the rugby Sevens competition taking place on October 28 and 29.
The Pan Am Games Rugby Sevens will be contested among the top eight teams in North and South America and the Caribbean. Guyana has qualified to represent the Caribbean and will be contesting for Pan American Rugby Sevens honours against Argentina, USA, Canada, Uruguay, Chile, Mexico and Brazil.
The Banks DIH Rugby Sevens will be followed by the GRFU Sevens League from August 6 to September 17 while the National Squad will be called up to commence training for the Pan Am Games on September 4.
The Banks DIH opening Rugby Sevens tournament will begin at 10:30am this morning with a March Past of the assembled teams. The Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, has been invited to take the salute.
The tournament will kick off at noon and the presentation of the Banks DIH Trophy will take place at the conclusion of the tournament at 5:25pm.
