The Central Islamic Organisa-tion of Guyana yesterday advised Muslims that the crescent for Ramadan has been sighted.
It said therefore that Taraweeh prayers were to be held last evening and that fasting for Ramadan would begin today. It conveyed Ramadan greetings to all Muslims.
In a message on the occasion, CIOG President Fazeel M Ferouz said “Let us in the month of Ramadan try our best to make peace with all our family members, neighbours and fellow citizens. Let us visit the sick and pray for them. Let us extend our mercy to orphans in our community.
Let us sympathize and help the widows and elderly in society. These actions will earn us God’s forgiveness and mercy; this is what Ramadhan stands for”.
