Guyana’s leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo will have his sternest test yet when he comes up against Chris Gayle in the Jam Zone Masters’ Cup T20 cricket tournament later this month at the Providence National Stadium.
The competition commences on August 12 and Gayle and Bishoo will face off against each other in the first semi-final which pits the Berbice Titans against the Hits and Jams Superstars.
The four team tournament is expected to attract capacity crowds and the defending champions Berbice Titans will be hard pressed to repeat as winners.
They will face keen competition from the Georgetown Pitbulls whose side will be led by former West Indies captain Ramnaresh Sarwan.
Sarwan’s team will also include players of the caliber of Jerome Taylor, Keiron Pollard, Danza Hyatt, Krishmar Santokie and Chris Barnwell.
They will open their quest for honours against the New Line Cavaliers team in the second semi final which will be played from 9pm.
The New Line Cavaliers side will also include Dwayne Smith, Denish Ramdin, Fidel Edwards, Lendl Simmons, Gajanand Singh and Mahendra Nagamootoo.
Gayle has been in explosive form in this year’s IPL T20 tournament slamming two centuries while Bishoo has had a fantastic year on the international scene so far.
The 25-year-old has so far captured 21 wickets in five Test matches and 19 One Day International wickets.
The two losing semi-finalists will compete in the third place play off on August 14, prior to the final which will see the winners carting off the whopping $2m first prize.
But the cricket will not provide the only excitement as Dancehall stars Movado and Vybz Kartel, R&B superstar Trey Songz, American female Rapper Eve and sassy Bollywood actress Shipla Shetty will perform on different nights.
