Thirty youths, aged 8 to 11, last Friday completed a Heritage Awareness Programme facilitated by the National Trust of Guyana in collaboration with The Ministry of Culture.
The Government Infor-mation Agency (GINA) said the camp, the first of its kind, was geared to educate and pique the interest of children regarding their heritage, as well as the nation’s legacy and its significance.
Students were given tours to various monuments, heritage as well as mangrove sites. In addition, basic practice sessions in making models, and in taxidermy were undertaken. Upon completion, participants were given certificates, tokens, as well as information packages that will benefit them as they undertake future work in these fields.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport was the facilitator of over eighty summer camps countrywide. It is hoped that with the successful completion, and overwhelming interest exhibited by participants of this camp, it will be an annual event, GINA added.
