President of the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) and manager of the Guyana team to the Pan American Junior championships in Jamaica, Gokarn Ramdhani said yesterday he was pleased with the performance of the Guyana team to the championships which ended yesterday at the National Sports Centre.
Guyana’s Priyanna Ramdhani gained a bronze medal in the junior mixed doubles after teaming up with Pedro Vasquez of El Salvador.
They were defeated in the semi-finals by Americans Clayton Cayenne and Charisse Chow 13-21, 14-21.
Ramdhani also reached the quarter finals of the girls’ doubles after teaming up with Jamaica’s Brianna Lewis.
Ramdhani’s brother Narayan also reached the quarter finals of the boys doubles along with partner Daniel La Torre of Peru losing to 15-21, 13-21 to the number two seeds Cristian Leite and Mattheus Voigt of Brazil while Christopher Camacho reached the quarter finals of the boys under-11 singles and doubles competitions.
“Judging from the results with us reaching the quarter finals and semis,I am happy with the team performance especially the players who got past the seeded players to get to the quarters and semis,” said Ramdhani.
Meanwhile Narayan Ramdhani and Kevin Quaicoe will participate in a six day stint at the Pan Am Academy. The stint which began yesterday will end on August 6 while Gokarn Ramdhani will attend a Pan Am coaches conference from August 1-3 also in Jamaica.
The Guyana team was expected to return home yesterday morning and will turn their attention to participating in the Caribbean Regional Badminton Championships (CAREBACO) which will be held in Barbados from August 27-September 4.
