Not even the rain could put a damper on the performance of Guyana’s top racing driver Mark Vieira at the South Dakota Circuit on Sunday.
Competing at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club 2011, Round Two, “Race of Champions” meet on Sunday, Vieira, in the final Group Four race, lapped the entire field for his only victory of the meet.
The organizers had decided to merge the Group Three and Four cars in the Guyoil-sponsored, 10-lap event and Vieira, in a show of brilliance, sparkled in his Mazda RX8, in wet conditions to end the truncated meet on a high.
Among those suffering the indignity of being lapped were arch rival Andrew King and Vieira’s brother Stephen, who just might be wondering if his sibling had never heard the term “brotherly love.”
Vieira had given an inkling of things to come when he smashed the lap record at Saturday’s Time Trials but he reserved his best performance for last.
It was sweet redemption for Mark Vieira who had failed to complete the first two events watching as his brother Stephen and King each won one event.
The second GMRSC meet of the year was not as well attended as it usually is and the organizers were forced to reduce the number of events because of the wet conditions which resulted in a number of cars staying in the pits.
With the rain falling intermittently throughout the afternoon which caused a number of the cars to skid on the surface, the drivers were wise in not taking too many chances and a number of them failed to complete a few of the races.
Paul Vieira won the first Group Four race over 10 laps which was sponsored by Giftland Office Max while King won the second race which was not sponsored.
Steven `Valentino Rossi’ Vieira won the two Superbike races while Stanley Ming jnr, made light work of the opposition, in the Go-Kart races.
