As expected, not a ball was bowled at any of the venues on the final day of the round four matches of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) three-day Under-19 tournament.
Soggy outfields, caused by heavy rain earlier in the week and yesterday morning, ensured that the players were kept in the pavilions for the third successive day.
Contests at Bourda between Guyana and defending three day champions, the Windward Islands, and at the Demerara Cricket Club ground between Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados, saw the groundsmen trying diligently to get the field read for some play.
While the games at Bourda and DCC were called off early Tuesday morning, at Everest, the umpires stretched the game between leaders Jamaica and Leeward Islands beyond lunch with inspections at 11am and 12.30 pm, before finally abandoning play at 12.45 pm.
Each team received three points from the rain-ravaged round leaving leaders Jamaica on 31 points, Trinidad and Tobago second on 27.3 points and Barbados third on 23.3 points.
All three teams are still in with a chance of taking the three-day crown when the final round begins tomorrow – weather permitting. Table leader Jamaica will fancy their chances as they take on the fifth placed Windward Islands at the Demerara Cricket Club ground.
Trinidad & Tobago face bottom-of-the-table side Leeward Islands at Bourda while Guyana venture back to Everest – the venue of their demoralizing third round defeat against Trinidad, to tackle third place Barbados, with the aim of finishing the three-day tournament with a victory.
