The seventh annual Ricks and Sari Agro Industries Limited, Memorial Regan Rodriques 50-mile cycle road race is scheduled to ride off this Sunday on the West Bank of Demerara.
The meet, which has been organised by National Cycling Coach Hassan Hohammed, will commence from Wales Police Station at 09:00h, proceed to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Demerara before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish.
The veteran, upright and female categories will turn back at the Uitvlugt Community Centre and finish at the Harbour Bridge.
The first six finishers, three juniors, three veterans, three uprights, two females and the first veteran over 60 years, will all receive prizes. Eight Prime Prizes are at stake during the course
of the race. Rodrigues, in whose honour the race is being held, was a former president of the Guyana Cycle Federation. He was also president of the Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club and a former Motor Racing Champion and sports enthusiast. Last year’s winner was Junior Niles, who completed the distance in one hour, 51 minutes and 14 seconds.
Christopher Holder is the defending junior champion, Gary Benjamin, the defending veteran champion, Kester Croal, the defending upright champion, Marcia Dick, the defending female champion and Monty Parris, the defending veteran over 60 years champion.
