The Guyana Softball League (GSL) says the 2011 Kares Tapeball Ten/10 tournament has been put on hold until Kares Engineering and Bushy Park honour certain agreements.
In a press release, the GSL contends that the communities that have put in hard work for the tournament must be rewarded, and, after repeatedly reminding the sponsors of their obligations, it took a decision to suspend the games. The group reiterated that the conditions noted in the agreement are critical to the continuation of the tournament.
GSL apologises to the nation for the disappoint the suspension will cause; however, it hopes that good sense good would prevail on the part of the sponsors so that the tournament can continue as it has attracted a record 942 teams.
In addition, the organisers say all authority regarding the tournament rests with the GSL, contrary to reports carried in some sections of the media. Kares Engineering are the sponsors and are responsible only for the promotional aspects of the game and for providing the ground. It has no authority over any cricket matches being played under the GSL or in this tournament, the release said.
According to the GSL, it will make available more information on the issues in the coming weeks as its investigations continue. It said too it will reveal the exact nature of the dispute with the sponsors in an upcoming statement. The GSL says it has a noted track record for maintaining high standards in bringing bigger and better events to the nation, ensuring that the real winners of tournaments are the people of the communities and the game of cricket.
