Disability awareness groups in several regions will benefit from new communication equipment to boost an ongoing awareness programme.
The donation of the equipment is part of the National Commission on Disability’s ‘It’s About Ability’ Project. The project is being executed jointly with the Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons with Disabilities and the Guyana Community Based Rehabilitation Programme.
It has been funded by UNICEF since 2008.
The main aim of the project is to train a cadre of trainers to further train members of various groups, including decision-makers, teachers, parents, youth and children, about the rights of persons with disabilities, in order to bring about a change in the attitudes and behaviours towards persons with disabilities.
The equipment will aid awareness groups in regions Two, Four, Six and Ten in the continuation of their activities by raising awareness about the rights of persons living with disabilities.
