Dear Editor,
I wish to extend heartiest congratulations to Ronsford Beaton on his appointment as the captain of the Guyana Under 19 Cricket Team presently contesting the West Indies Under 19 3-day competition. His elevation to the captaincy is very commendable, because as far as I know he is the first Essequibian to receive this honour. All Essequibians should be very proud of his achievement, especially those of Bush Lot Village, and should use his achievement as a fillip to emulate his feat. I remember with nostalgia at a very young age Ronsford was full of exuberance (even though he was very frail at the time). He was full of energy reminiscent of Ntini, and ran in and bowled with much heart when we played cricket behind aunt Kathleen’s residence. His development from then to present is commendable; kudos Ronsford, keep up the good work.
The selectors must also be congratulated for seeing the leadership potential in this young man and moving away from the normal practice of selecting one of the county team
captains from the preceding Inter-County competition.
The selection of Clinton Pestano is also commendable, since he possesses great potential. However, to fully realize his true potential he needs to be more committed and disciplined. It is not farfetched to one day see Pestano in the role of a bowling all-rounder in the West Indies team emulating the performance of Jerome Taylor, who scored a test century against New Zealand.
I would like to wish the Guyana team a hard fought tournament victory since success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration. I am encouraging all Guyanese to go out in their numbers to the various venues and support the team.
Yours faithfully,
Karl Vanier
