Alika Morgan and Chavez Sital won the women’s and men’s division of the John Venture Memorial Road Race last Sunday in Essequibo.
The race which started from Queenstown and finished at the Anna Regina Police Station saw Morgan in good form. She outclassed her competition, clocking 39:46s to finish ahead of Jenel Chase and Mary Hubbard. Morgan recently came back from a victorious expedition in Trinidad where she won a 5k and a half marathon. Chavez Sital, who has been under the radar lately, clocked 34:05s to comfortably win the men’s race ahead of Winsdale Walcott and Mark Chester. In the 14-16 age category, Steven Benjamin outlasted Akeem Greene to win the men’s road race while Naomi McLennan won the women’s race. In the 11-13 category of the race Keron McLennan won the men’s and Andrea Foster won the women’s.
