Abdul Asif Akbar, the driver who allegedly struck and killed eight-year-old Joshua Daniels, was released on $2M bail after he was charged yesterday.
Akbar, 34, of Lot 34 La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving at the Vreed-en–Hoop Magistrates’ Court.
Appearing before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, Akbar was not required to plead to the indictable charge of causing death by dangerous driving when it was read to him.
It was alleged that on August 3, at Ruimzigt Public Road, West Coast Demerara, Akbar drove motor car PJJ 1837 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Daniels.
No facts of what had transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.
The father of two will be making another court appearance on September 8.
Daniels was killed on Wednesday, when the driver allegedly swerved to avoid another vehicle, causing him to lose control of his vehicle, which toppled and struck down Daniels.
The child had accompanied his family from Mabura to attend a church convention and he was spending time with his relatives at Ruimzigt.
