Noel Elliot, who was injured in the Caribbean Airlines crash-landing at the CJIA, is now without his right leg, which was amputated by doctors at a New York City hospital on Sunday morning.
“It’s really hard for him right now,” Elliot’s wife, Sharon, told Stabroek News. When asked if she was contacted by any airline officials concerning her husband’s condition, she responded in the negative. She added, “The most important thing right now is getting over there to help him because it’s a real drama for both of us…I can’t even stay in the house [sometimes] ’cause when I think about it, it’s really hard.” Sharon is yet to access a visa to travel to the United States to be with her husband, but she is optimistic that she will be able to soon, in light of the circumstances. “It’s all in God’s hands right now,” she stated.
Elliot, 46, had fractured his leg, which was the most severe injury suffered by a passenger in the crash-landing. He had been seated towards the back of the aircraft at the time.
He had returned home for a two-week vacation to celebrate his first wedding anniversary. Elliot, who works at a law firm, has been resident in the US for six years.
