Tomorrow’s Impress Youth Expo, organised by Youths for the PPP/C, is an attempt to address the disregard for youth in political and social change.
Organisers yesterday announced that a mega-concert, scheduled after the expo, has been postponed out of respect for Muslims observing Ramadan, while the other expo plans remain unchanged. The concert will be held at a date to be announced.
At a press briefing, the organisers said that the conference, to be held at the International Conference Centre at Liliendaal, is in no way a political event and as a result youth from all ethnic, political, social and financial strata are invited. There will be appearances by President Bharrat Jagdeo, Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud, and Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, among others. There will also be open participation on all issues related to youth in an attempt to quell “the historic disregard for youth, the perception and social stigma of youth as historically immobile, mute population who mustn’t really get too much into politics/social change/transformation etcetera.”
The conference begins at 9am and will end in the afternoon. Youths will be given the opportunity to discuss employment or youth opportunities, cultural appreciation, political activism, and Information and Communication Technology advancement, among other subjects. After lunch, there will be breakout sessions, where any issue of interest will be discussed.
