Handyman Youganand Persaud was yesterday fined $10,000 for disorderly conduct and bonded to keep the peace by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton.
Persaud blamed his behaviour on drinking after he pleaded guilty to the charges.
Appearing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Persaud accepted that on August 5, at Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he made use of indecent language, which annoyed persons in the neighbourhood.
The 48-year-old accepted also that on the same day he behaved disorderly.
When given a chance to explain, Persaud begged for lenience and said that whenever he drinks, he behaves in a disorderly manner and uses expletives.
“When I drink I does behave in this manner meh worship,” Persaud calmly said.
The defendant went on to say that he also uses indecent language because his brother, with whom he lives, normally provokes him by putting him out of the yard and locking the gate. He added that after his behaviour on the day in question, he was picked up by police and taken to the station, after which he was arrested and charged.
Magistrate Octave-Hamilton reprimanded Persaud for his behaviour and he in response said that he understood that he should not behave in such an unruly manner again.
Persaud was fined $10,000 on the disorderly behaviour charge or alternatively will spend seven days in prison. Meanwhile, he was placed on a bond to keep the peace for six months on the other charge.
