A Bourda Market vendor was yesterday charged with unlawfully wounding another vendor.
Shawn Robinson, 37, of 2452 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown was admitted to bail in the sum of $120,000 by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton, who warned him that he would be imprisoned if he interfered with the complainant.
Robinson was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on August 6, at Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Mark Edwards.
Robinson, who was unrepresented by counsel, made an application to be admitted to bail, which drew objection by the prosecutor, who noted that the two work in the vicinity of each other. It was the view of Police Corporal Venetta Pindar that if granted bail, Robinson would interfere with Edwards.
Pindar also said that though Edwards was present at court, his medical certificate, which was presented to the court, indicated that the injury he sustained is potentially life-threatening and as a result Robinson should be refused bail.
The prosecution’s request was, however, denied as the Magistrate informed the defendant that he would be granted his pre-trial liberty on the strict ground that he had “absolutely nothing to do with the witness.” She explained to Robinson that if after being admitted to bail he interfered with Edwards while the matter is being determined, he will be imprisoned until the case ends.
The defendant acceded to the court’s order and was later granted bail, while the matter was transferred to Court One for October 20.
