KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaican officials have remained tight-lipped, following revelations that sprinter Steve Mullings have tested positive for a banned substance, according to a report in the Jamaica Gleaner yesterday.
The newspaper said that Mullings’ bid to contest the 100 and 200 metres at the World Championship in Daegu, South Korea, later this month could be derailed by reports which claim he tested positive for a masking agent at the Jamaican national championships held in June this year.
The Gleaner said if confirmed, the positive finding could spell an end to the career of the 28-year-old Mullings. He previously failed a drugs test seven years ago during qualification for the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, and served a two-year ban.
Mullings has set the third fastest time this season in the 100 of 9.80, and the season’s fifth best time for the 200 of 20.11.
