Karen Kerr, the mother of four who was allegedly shot twice in the shoulder by her reputed husband early Friday morning, is still hospitalized but her condition is said to be improving. Stabroek News understands that yesterday she was communicating more with relatives.
The suspect Gavin Joseph in the meantime remains in custody at the Brickdam lock-ups. Stabroek News was told that charges will be laid once investigators are in possession of her statement. The suspect’s 72 hours in custody expires tomorrow night.
According to the information reaching this newspaper, the couple had an argument in their Lot 309 Rohinital Street, Prashad Nagar home just after 2 am. The man minutes later told Kerr’s sister Carolina Welcome who lives in the lower flat of the couple’s home, that he had just shot his partner.
Joseph, a gold miner and licensed firearm holder assured Welcome that the injuries Kerr sustained were not life threatening. He later handed Kerr’s brother who was staying with the couple at the time some money and instructed that she be taken to the hospital. He then calmly walked out of the yard.
That evening he surrendered to police at Kitty Police Station and lodged his firearm.
