An employee of Ashmins Trading Limited accused of stealing a pair of Levi’s jeans from the store was granted $15,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton on Friday.
It is alleged that on August 10 at High Street, Georgetown; Rawlden Peters, 23, stole one pair of Levis jeans valued $4,900; property of Ashmins Trading Limited.
The defendant who resides at 146 Bagotville, West Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the simple larceny charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson said that his client was employed with Ashmins at the time of the alleged theft but stressed that he is innocent of the charge levelled against him. The lawyer however said that the truth of the matter will be ventilated at the trial.
No facts of what transpired on the day in question were presented by the prosecution.
Counsel then made an application for his client to be admitted to reasonable bail saying that he has no antecedents, poses no risk of flight, has a fixed address and has been cooperating with police investigations.
The prosecution had no objection to the bail application made by the defence.
Peters was then placed on $15,000 bail and ordered to attend Court One on October 24.
