About 25 CEOs and business leaders from Central America and the Caribbean are scheduled to meet with Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin this week in El Salvador to discuss strengthening trade relations between both regions in the face of economic challenges in the hemisphere.
A press release from the OAS said that Trade and Industry Ministers of four countries — El Salvador, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica — will join the business leaders for the meeting scheduled to take place August 18 in San Salvador.
The meeting of CEOs, which will take place on the sidelines of the Third Central American Integration System (SICA) CARICOM Summit of Leaders in San Salvador, was convened following requests by government and private sector officials of both regions to Assistant Secretary General Ramdin.
According to Ramdin, the meeting will facilitate serious discussions about common economic challenges and come up with creative solutions.
“We want open and frank discussions on co-operation as we work to build new partnerships and strategic alliances,” said Ramdin.
“The economic slowdown affects millions of people in both regions. More opportunities for trade and investment mean job opportunities, secure wages, fewer lay-offs. We must use every opportunity to work together,” the OAS official stated.
