A 22-year-old man accused of stealing his ex-girlfriend’s gold chain was yesterday admitted to $30,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Kurt Jason Adams is that on August 13 at Brickdam and Water Street, he stole from the person of Roxanne Pillew one gold chain valued $13,000, property of the said Pillew.
The stray catcher who resides at 906 Fourth Field, Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara denied the charge of larceny from the person when it was read to him.
The prosecution had no objection to Adams being granted his pre-trial liberty but requested that bail be set in a substantial sum to ensure he returns to court to stand trial.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey also requested that conditions be attached to the defendant’s bail, warning him not to interfere with the virtual complainant (VC) since she is his ex-girlfriend.
In a brief address to the court, Harvey said that the VC had severed a relationship she shared with the accused and on the day in question he stole her gold chain.
No further details of what transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.
When asked by the magistrate if he would undertake to have “absolutely nothing to do with the witness,” during the continuation of the matter, Adams responded in the affirmative. The magistrate sternly warned him not to interfere with the witness.
His matter was transferred to Court One for November 2.
