Guyana struck gold in the under-14 category of the first Citizens Investment Services International Junior Lawn Tennis Tournament in St. Vincent last Wednesday.
The under-14 girls team of Nicola Ramdyhan and Aretta Dey overcame odds to pull off a thrilling comeback win over Jamie Lewis (BAR)/Noah Peters (ANT) to claim the title.
After losing the first set 6-3, the Guyanese pair showed determination when they leveled the match at one set apiece as they romped to a 6-2 second set win.
Ramdyhan and Dey, known for their consistency used the experience to eke out a well-deserved victory for Guyana, a press release noted.
The deciding tie-break went down to the wire ending 12-10 in Guyana’s favour.
The score was 3-6, 6-2 and 12-10 in the tie-break.
Meanwhile Ramdyhan and Dey are expected to land Guyana a gold or silver when the individual segment of the tournament is played.
