Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) ‘A’, Georgetown Cricket Club and Demerara Cricket Club each recorded commanding victories over their respective opponents on day three of the Inaugural De Sinco Trading, GCA Under-13 cricket competition.
At the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) Ground, GCC hammered Everest by 266 runs. Batting first GCC amassed 346-4 from the allotted 25 overs. Raymond Prez (38), Renaldo Ali Mohammed (36) and Samuel McKenzie (31) were the top scorers.
Everest in reply struggled to stay relevant in the chase scoring 80 for 22 dismissals. Arvender Dianda led the bowling with figures of 7-6 while Prez completed a quality all-round performance to claim 4-14.
Over at the GYO Ground, DCC thrashed the host ‘B’ team by 199 runs. Taking first strike GCC totalled 340 with Clevon McKevean top scoring with 13. In response GYO ‘B’ failed to stay in the hunt, as they scored 141 for 15 dismissals with Rohan Persaud the main scorer with 14.
Over the road at the GNIC Ground, GYO ‘A’ completed their second victory in consecutive days as they brushed aside Malteenoes by 86 runs.
Having first batting use of the pitch GYO ‘A’ piled up 317 for 2 in their completed quota of overs with Christopher Campbell’s 14 leading his team’s batting effort. Malteenoes scored 231 for 9 in reply with Joel St. Hill top scoring with 10 in a losing effort.
The tournament is being played under the “Pair cricket” format that has been readily used at youth cricket level in other established cricket nations like India, Australia and England.
The format sees every team starting their innings with 200 runs, while 10 runs are deducted for every wicket lost during the mandatory innings total of 25 overs.
Play in the competition finishes tomorrow with matches along Woolford Avenue in the city.
