The National insurance Scheme fulfilled their promise of paying pension benefits to former sugar worker Ronald Collins who was declared dead in the company’s computer system.
Speaking from his home in Berbice via telephone, Collins informed Stabroek News that on Friday he received a cheque from NIS which included all backdated monies owed to him since his pension fell due in April last year. He added that he was relieved that the ordeal was over, although he is still to query some missed deductions covering a five-year period that possibly might have been an error on the part of his employer. However, he said the latter matter is minute in comparison to his first ordeal (being declared dead), and thus he will not stress himself out over it, although he will still seek to rectify it in due course.
