DCC are competition winners

Georgetown Cricket Club and Gandhi Youth Organization “B” recorded victories while Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), who dominated their encounter, had an incomplete match due rain, on the final day of the inaugural De Sinco Trading, GCA Under-13 cricket competition yesterday.

The results of those games meant that DCC will be crowned competition winner although they finished second in the points standing to Georgetown Cricket Club. This is because GCC had a few players over the age limit, but GCA executives, sponsors and all the clubs allowed GCC to continue to play in the competition for experience, but due to the aforementioned infringement they are not eligible to win the title.

At GYO Ground, GCC defeated GYO “A” by 46 runs. Batting first GYO “A” scored 252-3 from their allotted 25 overs. Joshua Persaud was the only batsmen into double figures with 11.

GCC in reply totaled 298 for 7 with Raymond Perez who has had an impressive tournament top scoring with 37. He got support from Renaldo Mohammed 29 and Rawle Payne 22. Brandon Jaikaram 2-18 and Navendra Persaud 2-33 had the best bowling figures for the defeated hosts.

Over at GUYNIC Ground, GYO “B” made up for the demise of the “A” side by toppling Everest by 51 runs. Taking first strike GYO “B” totaled 261 for 9, with Baskhar Chadram (25), Rohan Persaud (18), Reyaz Mohammed (18) and David Persaud (17) the principal scorers. Nicholas Sataur claimed 2 for 2 for Everest.

Everest scored 210 for 16 dismissals with Donald Griffith scored the tournaments highest score of 84. Keishun Badol (3 for 7) and Akish Singh (3-25) led the bowling figures for the victories GYO “B” side.

Across the road at MYO Ground, saw an incomplete game due to weather interruption during the afternoon. Malteenoes batting first struggled to 43 for 24 dimissals, before DCC amassed an impressive 292 for 2 in 16.4 overs.

The tournament was played under the “Pairs cricket” format that has been readily used at youth cricket level in other established countries like India, Australia and England. The format sees every team starting their innings with a bonus of 200 runs, and 10 runs are deducted for every wicket they lose within the stipulated 25 overs.

Additionally, two runs were recorded for every wide or no-ball that is bowled, and each player was allowed to bat a maximum of five overs, during which he could have been dismissed more than once.
