The police say they are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 1915h on Sunday at No. 45 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, and which resulted in the death of Steven Coppin, 65 years of Bengal Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.
Investigations revealed that motor vehicle GJJ 6852 was proceeding along No. 45 Village Public Road, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a stationary donkey cart which was on the side of the road. As a result, Coppin who was sitting on the donkey cart suffered injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Fort Wellington Hospital. The body is at the Fort Wellington Hospital Mortuary awaiting a PME.
The driver has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
