Deston Bailey, 26, was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton on the charges that he broke into his father’s house and damaged a vehicle windshield and window.
It is alleged that Bailey, of 158 Waterloo Street, North Cummingsburg, between August 12 and August 13 at Georgetown, broke and entered the dwelling house of Steven Bailey, with intent to commit a felony. Further, on August 13 at Georgetown, Bailey is alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously damaged one vehicle windshield and window, valued $180,000 and property of Steven Bailey.
The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charges of breaking and entering a building with intent to commit a felony and malicious damage to property when they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. No facts of the cases were presented to the court.
The unrepresented Bailey made an application for bail but this was denied after the prosecution’s objection.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey objected to the accused being granted his pre-trial liberty, while noting that he had pending matters before the court in which his mother is the complainant in addition to the new allegations being brought against him by his father.
The prosecutor contended that if granted bail, there is likelihood that the accused will commit similar offences against his parents and other relatives at the said Waterloo Street address where they all reside.
The prosecution’s request was granted and Bailey was informed that he would be remanded to prison until September 29. The case was transferred to Court One.
